Palazzo Magnocavalli (UK)
Period: 1732 (start of restoration work)
Project: Designed by Giacomo Zanetti (Lugano1696? – Casale Monferrato 1735)
Present Use: It has housed the Municipality of Casale Monferrato since 1979
Façade: The stone portal has been attributed to Benedetto Alfieri who lived in Casale in 1736; whereas the balustrade of the balcony is definitely the work of the Pelagattas of Viggiù, a family of marble workers and is dated 1737.
The Courtyards: The entrance, distinguished by pillars, opens on to a courtyard bound on the west by a wing of the building built in the second half of the 1800s
The Interior: The grand staircase, which winds around two columns, is of monumental beauty even though constructed in a limited space. It is illuminated by mirror-glass windows and decorated with stucco; the frescoes on the vaulted ceiling are attributed to Bartolomeo Rusca. At the foot of the staircase is a wooden statue, dated 1737, by Gerolamo Lurasco who was also known as Grisone
