Comune di Casale Monferrato

Ex chiesa di Santa Chiara (UK)

interno dell'ex chiesa di santa chiara

Period: Originally the Monastery of the Poor Clares, it was built on the express desire of two noblewomen, belonging to the family of the Coccastellis of Monferrato, who having been widowed, decided to take the veil and financed the building of the monastery in Casale. The construction work began in Via della Provvidenza street in 1609

Present Use: It is now an auditorium and the venue of seminars, refresher courses, meetings of various associations and concerts

Façade: This Monastery which is quite self-contained, was built in a very simple style; it houses on its north side an equally simple church consecrated by Msgr. Scipione Pascale in 1621

The Interior: Typical of the other religious structures in the town, the position of the cloistered choir, which placed between the church and the monastery, allowed the Poor Clares to privately participate in the religious functions. It has housed the offices of the Casa della Provvidenza (TN: the House of Providence is a children’s charity) since the middle of the nineteenth century
