Sinagoga (UK)
Period: The Synagogue was built in 1595 in the Jewish quarter of the town. Since then it has undergone several expansions and renovations
Façade: The outside of the building does not present any elements of artistic interest (before the passing of the Albertini Statute, Jews were prohibited from decorating the façades of their temples)
The Interior: The entrance to the prayer hall is reached once you walk through the main door. This is the result of an expansion carried out in the early decades of the eighteenth century; it is in contrast with the façade as it is richly decorated in an extraordinary example of the late Baroque style in Piedmont. The walls are embellished with Hebrew inscriptions, mainly quotations from the Bible. There are also other commemorative inscriptions which mark the several renovations as well as other auspicious events in the history of the community: the deliverance from the sieges of 1629 and 1656 and above all the Jewish emancipation in 1848 (the only inscription in both Hebrew and Italian)
